Common questions

What is the export realisation period from 1 October 2026?

Nine months from the date of shipment for goods, from the invoice date for services, and from the date of sale for goods sent to an overseas warehouse. Exports invoiced or settled in rupees get twelve months. The January 2026 text said fifteen and eighteen; the 22 September 2026 amendment cut them before the rules took effect.

Is there still a six-month limit for import payments?

Not for transactions from 1 October 2026. The payment period follows the underlying contract, and the AD bank monitors the IDPMS entry against it and can extend on a reasoned request.

What happens if export proceeds are not realised in time?

If proceeds remain unrealised more than a year past the due date or extended date, further exports can be made only against full advance payment or an irrevocable letter of credit.

Can small EDPMS or IDPMS entries be closed more easily?

Yes. From 1 October 2026 entries up to ₹10 lakh can be closed on the exporter's or importer's declaration that payment has been realised or made, and the declaration can be filed quarterly in bulk.
